Echoing Secrets

About

Panos Vougas (b.1996)
My practice explores three-dimensional space as a field of experience, where memory, body and presence continuously interact.
Beginning from painting, my work gradually moved towards sculpture through the need to engage space in a more direct and physical way.
Holding a BSc in Interior Architecture from the University of West Attica, Athens, and through my involvement with scenography, I approach form as an unstable spatial construction where body, object and environment exist in states of tension, proximity and silence.
The works move between the visible and the invisible, the personal and the collective, creating situations in which the viewer is invited not only to observe, but also to position themselves physically and emotionally within the space.
Materiality is central to my practice. Clay, plaster, metal and ephemeral materials function as carriers of fragility, transformation and displacement, activating questions around decay, memory and presence.

Project

Echoing Secrets, 2026
What is a secret? What are the secrets of our society? How can we discover a form of social truth through secrets?
The sound installation Echoing Secrets, attempts to approach these questions. Three metal cones, formally and morphologically shaped in abstraction from satellites, loud speakers or television dishes, transmit and “expose” secrets.
The secrets are collected anonymously from members of society. Their transmission takes place in such a way that they are simultaneously revealed and concealed.
The alphabet is transformed and translated into musical notes, while the secrets are encoded through piano compositions. Echo-like sounds are emitted in a “language” that feels familiar to everyone, yet remains unrecognizable.
All of this unfolds through a complete contradiction: the brutality of metal against the sensitivity of the secrets being transmitted, fragments of our inner worlds taking the form of hidden confessions.
