About

Saar Philips is a Belgian multidisciplinary artist. Drawing from her interest in both visual art and music and sound, as well as her background in vocals, she creates work that connects these two worlds. She began by experimenting in the medium of photo/video, after which she later expanded into sound installations, ceramic objects and painting. She is fascinated by the intrinsic sound of 'lost' or found objects and enjoys playing with expectation, fiction and alienation. Her work is an invitation to take a critical and ironic view of the world around us.

Project

Found objects that communicate, what do they want to tell us?
When you hold a shell to your ear, you don't hear the sea, but you do hear something. A rustle, a resonance, a presence.
I investigate the sound experience and the relationship between the auditory and the visual, through combinations of objects, sound, and space. Underlying this is an interest in perception and transformation, in expectation and alienation. It is an invitation to take a critical and ironic view of the world around us.
