Finance Man & Vera

About

Nick Horemans is a financial advisor in training, artistic researcher and maker with a strong interest in storytelling, digital culture and the way young people experience financial reality today. Drawing from his background in Business Economics and his years at Capitant, a student organization focused on finance, he investigates how themes such as money, status, FOMO and platform culture shape not only knowledge, but also behavior and identity. With Finance Man & Vera, he is developing a comic-like universe that translates this complex lived reality into recognizable, humorous and critical stories. His practice is situated at the intersection of interactive media, pop culture, artistic research and social relevance, with particular attention to how entertainment can also become a form of insight and reflection.

Project

Finance Man & Vera is an artistic universe that translates the complex financial and cultural lifeworld of young people into a recognizable, humorous, and critical world full of characters, tensions, and social pressure. It begins from the observation that young people no longer encounter financial reality only through banks, schools, or parents, but also through smartphones, social media, feeds, short-form videos, and other platforms that shape what feels attractive, normal, and worth pursuing. In that environment, money, status, FOMO, ambition, and identity are constantly intertwined.

Within this universe, these themes are not presented as dry explanations or moralizing lessons, but as a living and entertaining experience. Through storytelling, humor, character dynamics, and a distinct visual language, Finance Man & Vera reveals how financial behavior is often entangled with social pressure, online performativity, and the awkward process of growing up. The project uses recognizable situations, exaggeration, and critical distance to make complex realities discussable without flattening their complexity.

The world of Finance Man & Vera is inspired by a mix of pop-cultural and narrative references, including the moral complexity of Game of Thrones, the psychological and systemic depth of Disco Elysium, the irreverent satire of South Park, the awkward character-driven humor of The Office, and the exaggerated coming-of-age energy of Kick-Ass and Invincible. It also draws inspiration from contemporary financial and cultural storytelling formats such as The Woke Salaryman and creator-led social media narratives, bringing those influences together into a universe that feels entertaining, critical, and culturally close to the realities it explores.
