About

Fareed Aziz is an Egyptian multidisciplinary visual artist and architect based in Belgium. He holds a Master’s in Fine Arts Sint Lucas Antwerp and a Bachelor’s in Architecture Misr International University, Cairo. Originally a professional architect, he transitioned into arts and culture, exploring human expression and exchange through collective, participative processes.

His practice blends visual arts and architecture, often investigating the notion of "home" through public art, scenography, workshops, and community initiatives. Currently, he researches craftsmanship and "Transmission Architecture", with a focus on "Khayamiya" an authentic Egyptian textile tradition. His work seeks fair, meaningful collaboration between artists and artisans, emphasizing shared resources and knowledge

Project

The word "Sanad" means lineage, chain of transmission, or support. But in this context, it is inherited by craft, not by blood.

This mixed-media installation reflects two and a half months of real fieldwork in Cairo, created together with Khayamiya (or "Art of Addition") crafters and masters. The work brings stories of lineage and questions its disappearance, tells the history of the craft through the crafters' narratives, and recreates shared spaces. The aim is to find ethical ways of collaborating and blurring the gap between artists and artisans.
